Hello Lovelies, how have all of you been lately? As some of you might know by now from my instagram photos, my Fiance and I have adopted a puppy! Our puppy has been keeping my hands full with training, playtime and the dreaded cleanup of toys and crumbs from kibble. But before I go on and on, let me bring this story all the way back to the beginning. I have a dog back home in Canada who I adopted from the States, and currently lives with my parents- and may I add, is spoiled rotten. I had no intentions of adopting a dog, or thinking of caring for, or training a puppy while staying in the Caribbean. It was not something I thought I would do anytime soon with my Fiance. But one day a few of my friends took me down to SXM Paws to walk the dogs and puppies in the shelter, and I ended up walking a puppy (however this puppy was not the one we would adopt). I’m not sure what happened but I became obsessed with ‘puppies’ I had puppy fever, constantly looking through the photos of all the puppies SXM Paws had up for adoption and foster.
So one day while I was doing my workout in the gym, I saw a photo of this puppy who looked like a shepherd mix, and instantly sent the photo to my Fiance while he was in class, only for him to say “let’s foster him”. At this point I had no idea if this puppy was a girl, or a boy, or even the exact age, or what his or her personality would be like. Within three hours, our apartment was now filled with a food and water dish, puppy playpen blankets, puppy food…and a new puppy in our care.
I won’t lie but having a new puppy is a lot of work! But at the end of the day it’s rewarding when you have a happy and tired puppy :)Bear is now 11 weeks and 5 days old, and we began to foster him at the age of 7 weeks, which turned into us adopting him and making him part of our growing family 🙂
I also got to see where Bear came from! He was born in the bush by the Golf Course in St.Marteens, to feral parents. He was taken from the wild at the age of 5 weeks with some of his siblings (others still remain in the ‘wild’). His father is known as ‘One Ear'(who I met while Corinne was feeding some of the golf course dogs) and has a reputation for being a Casanova on the island. Bear also has a lot of relatives, including a half uncle named Jasper, and a sister who I also met named Luna (and who was recently adopted!)
SXM paws is an organization that was founded in 2005 by Corinne Mackie. She is known as a dog whisperer, and is dedicated to providing care for animals in need in St.Marteens. If you’ve ever been in Corinne’s vehicle you get to witness her keen eye on spotting stray dogs in need, and stopping to feed them- which she does on a regular basis. She works tirelessly in rescuing and finding forever homes for many of the cats and dogs who live in St Marteens, most get adopted out to those in the USA, Canada, France and Holland. I think I’ll have to dedicate a full post to SXM paws in the near future 🙂

Anyways I just wanted to introduce you all to Bear since he has taken over my Instagram! Hehe… now he’s sleeping which lets me write this post with ease.
