“Ladies are not born, they are made” This particular quote has been haunting me as of late, and when I think of modern day ladies, Ulyana Sergeenko is the first one to pop into my mind. I have never met Ulyana, but I’m often left with an impression that she is today’s example of a modern lady. With her reputation for being Fashion Royalty, (mind you the Russian couturier has been called ‘The Red Queen’) the title can’t only be accredited to her eye for the elaborate, or theatrical sense of style. It’s both her elegance, and poise that resonates with the photographers’ cameras. And as I may be envious of her always expanding wardrobe, I admire the way she carries herself more. Perhaps she could be my inspiration while I attempt lessons in perfecting the art of being a modern lady.
I’ve never attended finishing school, however the novelty of it has made me wish I could attend. There is an appeal in wanting to know which fork to pair with which entrée, and the most important of the tableware; which is the dessert spoon?. Somehow I also imagine Julie Andrews being the headmistress of said imaginary finishing school my mind has created. Before I continue I, myself am not going to finishing school but I am reading up on “How to be a lady. I think it is valuable to remind myself the importance of what it means to be a lady, mainly how to be a better person. (I’m also including a link at the bottom of the website that I’m reading, it could be fun for you to check out).If Ulyana can do it, so can I- although she makes it look so effortless.
Now, when I envision a lady I see someone who can hold their head up high, no matter the situation. Someone who can remain calm and collect when life throws them off balance. And, Someone who knows how to be elegant, and poised at all the right moments. Plus the addition of good manners and proper etiquette. Ulyana seems to possess many of these qualities, and I once read that she tries to be polite by wearing the designers pieces to their fashion shows. ( it’s something, right?)
In fashion many ‘ladies’ have been the muse of famous designers over the years, think Audrey Hepburn, Bridget Bardot, and Scarlett O’Hara (to name a few) they are all the epitome of a lady. It is the way they act, the way they dress and do their makeup that makes them unusually feminine. Some of the most iconic looks include styling ones hair into a chignon, or away from the face. Ulyana isn’t afraid of showing her features ( but then again short hair, and putting her hair up flatters her face quite well)
Being ladylike fascinates, and inspires us. And, if being ladylike has been forgotten in modern times, the lesson that should be revived, in regards to fashion is what a difference posing with elegance can make. (ahem just do a google search of Ulyana Sergeenko) Which reminds me of that saying of being swallowed in ones clothing: that you want to look like you’re wearing the clothing not that your clothes are wearing you. Sometimes a little Elegance goes a long way. So the next time that you have an event to attend, elegance combined with confidence might be that perfect ‘Accessory’ you’re looking for. That’s one of the best lessons a lady can offer.
As for manners and etiquette, these are things that should not be overlooked, or forgotten in our day to day lives. Even when life decides to be hectic, a little bit of manners and etiquette can go a long way to making the world a better place.
Have A Happy Weekend!!
