Yasya Minochkina: Ukraine’s Designer To Watch

Privet Matryoshka’s!! I’ve decided today is a good day to write a fashion profile dedicated to Ukraine’s own Yasya Minochkina. The fashion designer was born and raised in the Ukraine, honing her talents, and skills at two of the most respected schools in the fashion industry: Central Saint Martins and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.

Yasya gained attention from the very moment she launched her collection in Moscow in 2012- the same year her collection debuted at Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days. The young designer’s collections have been featured in magazines like Vogue Ukraine, Vogue Italy, Harpers Bazaar Ukraine and Buro 24/7 – and the list doesn’t stop there.

Your designs feature a lot of international influences. Is this an important feature of your brand?
I do a lot of travelling and this really inspires my work. I have wanted to be a fashion designer since I was a child, my father is a painter and my mother is an architect so I have always had creative influences. Over the years I have progressed step by step and eventually built my brand.
What were your main inspirations for this seasons (AW 2013) collection?
I was inspired by muses of the 1930s, 60s and 70s. I wanted to create a look that was both dramatic and sensual. My retro influences were combined with contemporary fashion inspirations.

The top Russian model Irina Shayk is a big fan of Yasya’s creations, at one point the model flew to Kiev to order up to 30 dresses from the Ukrainian designer, known for creating woman’s wear with a classic and feminine touch.

I’ll be making a post soon, about Yasya Minochkina’s Spring-Summer 2014 collection!
